中美两国，同一纬度，同一大洋，同是文明大国，堪称地球双璧。
早在美国建国翌年，即派商船来华贸易。华盛顿总统也托美商在华购物，中国人尊称他们为“新国民”。以后，随着中美贸易的日益发展，两国人民的友谊也日趋加深。迄今两百多年来，中美关系虽有风风雨雨，但是风雨过后是晴天，友好的气氛日益见浓。随着新世纪曙光的降临，两国关系不断走向崭新的境界。特此献办展览，以飨广大观众。

Perface
As two
civilized powers at the same latitude and by
the same ocean, the People's Republic of China
and the United States may be rated as "two
pieces of jade on the earth".
In the following year of its foundation, the
United States sent merchant ships to China to
establish trade relationship with China. President
Washington even ordered some goods for himself.
These American merchants were warmly called
"new citizens" by the local Chinese
people. From then on, Sino-American friednship
got increasingly deeper with the development
of mutual trade. During the last two centuries,
Sino-American relations have been through ups
and downs, but the sun always comes out after
the wind and rain and the friendly atmosphere
has become more and more obvious. Today, with
the coming of the new century, the relationship
between the two countries is striding forward
onto a new stage. That's why we hold this exhibition
to cater to the interests of the audience.
